The Associate Dean of Students/Community Standards will serve as a University Judicial Affairs Officer, overseeing the student judicial system. The Associate Dean will assist in the formulation and the administration of policies and programs which support student formation in support of the Catholic, Jesuit mission and values of the University.

Characteristic Duties

* Provide leadership pertaining to all discipline cases.
* Coordinate student judicial board system
* Coordinate Administrative Hearing Boards including assigning cases
* Serve as chair for select administrative hearing boards
* Oversee the development, coordination and dissemination of all judicial policies and procedures
* Conduct fact finding/resolution hearings related to student code violations for both on and off-campus
* Provide disciplinary counseling and appropriate support referrals for students to both on-campus and off-campus resources.
* Develop and implement "formative" judicial sanctions
* Evaluate and ensure appropriate establishment  and training of student conduct policies and procedures on campus
* Advise and confer with students, parents and various university departments including Counseling Services, Athletics, Academics, Health Services and Housing, and Legal Counsel as required.
* Provide training for the other staff involved in judicial system, including Residence Life staff and staff involved in Administrative Hearing Boards
* Provide training for students involved in Student Judicial Board
* Conduct assessment and research in the judicial area.
* Maintain regular statistical reporting including Clery Act data
* Engage in other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Students
* Supervise Program Coordinator for Community Standards
* Promote strategies and programs designed to support the Catholic Jesuit mission of Boston College and positively impact students.

 

Requirements

 

Master's degree in Higher Education or related field. .5-7 years with progressive responsibility in judicial affairs management. Knowledge and understanding of pertinent federal and state legislation regarding judicial affairs in higher education.  Understanding and supportive of the Catholic Jesuit mission of Boston College. Comprehensive understanding of current student development theory.  Ability to work collaboratively with students. Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated commitment to diversity. Experience in a position that clearly demonstrates the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students.  Crisis management skills. Strong supervision skills. Strong leadership, judgment, organizational and interpersonal skills.  Strong writing and public speaking skills.
