Princeton University invites applications for the position of Associate Director for Programs, Frist Campus Center
Responsible for all facets of the Program Office, essential to the Frist Campus Center's mission of building community, including financial oversight, strategic planning, constituency building, and cultivation of collaborative relationships. Develops and implements a comprehensive program unit which promotes collaboration, inclusion, student development, and appreciation of the diverse backgrounds and interests of all members of the campus community.
The Associate Director for Programs encourages recognized undergraduate and graduate student organizations, academic departments and special interest centers to program within the Frist Campus Center. Supervises, trains and evaluates the Assistant Director of Programs for the Frist Campus Center. Advises the student volunteer Frist Campus Center Program Board and plans and implements campus center generated programs which complement student programming, and providing supplementary programming as necessary. The Associate Director for Programs evaluates program effectiveness and initiates changes as necessary.
The Associate Director will oversee the Programs Office budget which includes stewardship of Frist co-sponsorship funds, insuring that funded programs are in keeping with Frist Campus Center mission and goals. Additionally, the Associate Director for Programs will make programmatic decisions on behalf of University services units.
The Associate Director for Programs will exercise judgment over programmatic issues affecting the unit ensuring optimal use of financial and other resources. The Associate Director will make decisions regarding and enters into contractual agreements on behalf of Frist Campus Center and University Services. She/he establishes and maintains relationships with agents and vendors, interacts with University Risk Management and Legal Council, negotiates, amends, and executes, all contracts for campus center programs and events. Ensures that all financial relationships, expenditures and obligations incurred through the position adhere to university compliance rules and guidelines.
Other responsibilities will include the advancement of the Center's mission to build community. The Associate Director for Programs serves as liaison with a number of university offices, included but not limited to: Office of the Dean for Undergraduate Students, special interest centers including the Carl Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding, Davis International Center, LGBT Student Services, Ombuds Office, Pace Center for Community Service, Women's Center, and Residential Colleges. She/he works collaboratively on programs and issues related to campus culture and climate as well as with academic units to develop and implement initiatives which enhance academic coursework including lectures, dialogues, and public forums.
Position requires:
- Masters Degree in college student personnel or equivalent required with minimum of five years full time work experience in student affairs, student activities, or other college programming.
- Background in the provision of professional staff training and supervision as well as budget management.
- Ability to identify and develop opportunities for collaboration; skilled relationship builder
- Must have an appreciation and understanding of student development theory
- Ability to provide direction and guidance in the creation and innovative development of campus programs.
- Demonstrated programming, budgeting and long-range planning skills
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work effectively with a variety of campus services, and excellent supervisory skills.
- Expertise in advising student volunteers.
- Must be self-directed with the ability to work effectively both individually and on teams
Preferred:
- Strong leadership skills and background in leadership training
- Knowledge of and successful background in community development
- Masters Degree in related student affairs field, with minimum of seven years fulltime work experience in student affairs
- Membership in relevant student affairs professional associations (e.g. NASPA, NACA, ACUI, etc)
- Strong interpersonal skills and readily adaptable to varying situations
- Strong knowledge of diversity and inclusive education
- Knowledge of programming necessary to successfully compliment academically rigorous environment
- Understanding of campus centers and the role in building campus community
